Gentiles and so they were some of the people that Paul ended up taking the gospel message To and then the letters that he wrote that we have in the scriptures are letters that he would write to these [SPEAKER_00]: If you wanted to go from Asia to Europe, you were going to leave through Ephesus, so you can imagine pretty big and bustling city kind of a hub of commerce and trade and culture and those kind of things. 04:06.830 --> 04:08.252 [SPEAKER_00]: Ephesus was famous for a couple of things. 04:08.272 --> 04:14.141 [SPEAKER_00]: It was famous for the Temple of Artemis, and the cult worship of this goddess called Artemis. 04:14.161 --> 04:18.847 [SPEAKER_00]: The Romans called her Diana, the Ephesians, and the Gentile, the Greeks, they called her Artemis. 04:19.328 --> 04:22.353 [SPEAKER_00]: Of course, a false god, a false deity, but they worshiped her 04:23.013 --> 04:25.055 [SPEAKER_00]: really the whole city was a cult. 04:25.235 --> 04:25.956 [SPEAKER_00]: That's what it was. 04:26.016 --> 04:34.544 [SPEAKER_00]: And so as you read the book of Ephesians, you really get that context of why Paul talks very much about spiritual warfare, especially as we get into chapter could go to the amphitheater, they would put on the gladiator games or the Olympic games, they would obviously have plays and songs and things like that. 05:43.920 --> 05:46.061 [SPEAKER_00]: It was a big, big thing, right, to go into the theater. 05:46.081 --> 05:49.083 [SPEAKER_00]: Whatever was happening in the theater, it was very important in the city. 05:49.663 --> 05:51.505 [SPEAKER_00]: And so this was the city of Ephesus. 05:51.565 --> 06:00.596 [SPEAKER_00]: Paul spent three years in the city, planted a church there, shared the gospel there, and it says in Acts 19 that the gospel prevailed in Ephesus. 06:00.616 --> 06:04.881 [SPEAKER_00]: The gospel was prevailing really in all of Asia through Paul, through his companions. 06:04.922 --> 06:07.525 [SPEAKER_00]: And now Paul, a few years later, after he is 06:07.865 --> 06:12.246 [SPEAKER_00]: He is left ethicist and he is actually a prisoner in Rome at this point. 06:12.286 --> 06:19.868 [SPEAKER_00]: He is writing a letter back to this city to encourage the Christians about what it means what it looks like to continue living out their faith. 06:20.188 --> 06:29.150 [SPEAKER_00]: He wants them to understand and know the gospel, be solidified in that and then be able to kind of live that out as Gentiles in a pagan city, in a very hard place to be a Christian. 06:29.170 --> 06:32.411 [SPEAKER_00]: And so Ephesians believed, come to faith in Jesus Christ as crucified and risen Savior all who are in Christ are called. 07:07.946 --> 07:14.250 [SPEAKER_00]: The saints, he opens up this letter to the saints in he's like, hey y'all, the gospel is really hurting our commerce here. 23:24.416 --> 23:26.058 [SPEAKER_00]: Like it's hurting our money. 23:26.118 --> 23:30.642 [SPEAKER_00]: It's hurting the silver
