before we talk about the flood, and before we talk about the arkals, talk about what God sees. 09:52.739 --> 09:55.961 [SPEAKER_01]: Genesis says the earth was corrupt in God's sight. 09:56.001 --> come back to the fact that God sees. 10:07.969 --> 10:14.774 [SPEAKER_01]: Genesis asks a different kind of question, and the question is this, what kind of God would be a God who sees violence and The language here that gets beaten like a drum into these first few verses of chapter six is corruption, corruption, corruption, violence, violence, violence. 10:50.262 --> 10:57.168 [SPEAKER_01]: Not love looks like when an encounter's evil. 11:55.195 --> 12:01.318 [SPEAKER_01]: And so here's something extraordinary because Genesis chapter six takes us back to Genesis chapter one. 12:01.578 --> 12:02.798 [SPEAKER_01]: What does the refrain? 12:02.858 --> 12:04.639 [SPEAKER_01]: What's the refrain of Genesis chapter one? 12:04.659 --> 12:11.142 [SPEAKER_01]: If you remember the first six days of creation, and God saw what He created and it was, 12:12.294 --> 12:14.094 [SPEAKER_01]: God saw what he created and it was. 12:14.795 --> 12:16.555 [SPEAKER_01]: God saw what it created and it was. 12:17.135 --> 12:20.196 [SPEAKER_01]: And then on the sixth day, final day, God saw a stood back. 12:20.856 --> 12:24.777 [SPEAKER_01]: And so everything that he created and it was very good. earth is populated with life. 13:26.997 --> 13:40.604 [SPEAKER_01]: Genesis 6 tells a story of reversal, the earth disappearing, the world depreciating, moving away from life, everything being kind of words are astonishing to me because from Genesis chapter six we're introduced to a God whose heart breaks. 14:41.567 --> 14:44.329 [SPEAKER_01]: The creator of the earth has a broken heart. 14:48.893 --> 15:08.228 [SPEAKER_01]: It sounds maybe a little bit more kind of malleable to 21st century is, but when you think about the creator of every living thing, everything that lives moves and has its being, everything that's seen, everything below the earth, on the earth and above the earth, guides created at all. 15:09.836 --> 15:25.322 [SPEAKER_01]: planned and purposeed it and yet in this moment, his heart breaks, like a builder standing in a house, he lovingly created only to discover termites of hollered it out and made a brittle from the inside. 15:28.784 --> 15:32.245 [SPEAKER_01]: has a broken heart, not because creation has malfunctioned, but because the people he loved made in his own image, chose violence over love, domination over stewardship, and death over life. 15:53.227 world is only an echo of the grief God has carried from the beginning. 16:27.343 --> 16:37.269 [SPEAKER_01]: And if you wonder whether that's what really God is like, if that's what God is like, let's look at Jesus, who stood at the gates of Jerusalem, stood overlooking Jerusalem and wept. 16:38.209 --> 16:41.631 [SPEAKER_01]: He stood at Lazarus's grave and wept. 16:42.912 --> 16:44.973
