03:25.676 --> 03:27.178 [SPEAKER_00]: Poor and spirit. 03:27.818 --> 03:30.220 [SPEAKER_00]: Do you know what it means to be poor and spirit? 03:30.841 --> 03:38.708 [SPEAKER_00]: Well I'm going to share a story with you about a woman in the Bible who gives us a perfect example of what it means to be poor and spirit. 03:39.388 --> 03:41.850 [SPEAKER_00]: I want to talk to you about a woman named Esther. 03:42.511 --> 03:45.133 [SPEAKER_00]: You see, Esther was an unlikely influencer. 03:45.634 --> 03:47.676 [SPEAKER_00]: She did not set out to be an influencer. 03:48.096 --> 03:50.798 [SPEAKER_00]: In fact, Esther's life started with heartbreak and sadness. 03:51.499 --> 03:52.520 [SPEAKER_00]: Esther was an orphan. 03:53.040 --> 03:58.666 [SPEAKER_00]: Her parents were killed by enemies of Israel when she was young, and she went to live with her older cousin Mordakai. 03:59.286 --> 04:01.028 [SPEAKER_00]: And things only got harder for Esther. 04:01.688 --> 04:09.796 [SPEAKER_00]: When she was a young lady, she was taken captive by the Persian army and required to stand before the king, so he could decide if she was the one he wanted to marry. 04:10.496 --> 04:16.021 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure it was all very overwhelming for a young girl who had lived a quiet and secluded life with her cousin. 04:17.202 --> 04:25.726 [SPEAKER_00]: Here she was in the middle of a Persian kingdom, having to live with other women, being brought before the king and inspected to see if she would be the new queen. 04:26.486 --> 04:28.007 [SPEAKER_00]: Did she even want to be a queen? 04:35.590 --> 04:38.351 [SPEAKER_00]: She became queen, she would be queen of the Persians. 04:38.831 --> 04:42.573 [SPEAKER_00]: People who did not know her God, people who were enemies of her people. 04:43.313 --> 04:48.038 [SPEAKER_00]: When Esther was chosen to be the new queen, she had nothing of her own to bring to the kingdom. 04:48.939 --> 04:57.349 [SPEAKER_00]: Sure, she was given jewels and a crown and beautiful dresses, but Esther had nothing of her own, not even mortic high could come and live with her. 04:58.230 --> 04:59.771 [SPEAKER_00]: In reality, she was alone. 05:00.472 --> 05:12.916 [SPEAKER_00]: The only thing Esther had was her faith in Yahweh, the one true and living God, and that is the one thing she would not let go of, even in a foreign palace in a foreign land far away from home. 05:13.556 --> 05:14.676 [SPEAKER_00]: Esther held to her God. 05:15.336 --> 05:17.197 [SPEAKER_00]: You see Esther was poor in spirit. 05:17.737 --> 05:20.998 [SPEAKER_00]: She had nothing else in her own strength to do what God had called her to do. 05:21.558 --> 05:24.039 [SPEAKER_00]: She had to rely completely on him in nothing else. 05:24.743 --> 05:30.126 [SPEAKER_00]: because the time came when Esther would have to choose to either rely on God or her own strength. 05:30.807 --> 05:33.148 [SPEAKER_00]: You see, Esther's people, the Jews were in danger. 05:33.568 --> 05:36.990 [SPEAKER_00]: The King had ordered a decree that the Jews living in Persia were to be killed. 05:37.571 --> 05:40.072 [SPEAKER_00]: All of the Jews, just like that, murdered. 05:41.093 --> 05:43.855 [SPEAKER_00]: Esther was a Jew, but the King did not know. 05:44.735 --> 05:52.320 [SPEAKER_00]: So Esther had a choice to make, would she go to the King and stand up for her people or would she stay quiet and save herself?
