01:23.526 [SPEAKER_01]: He really represents Egypt, the oppressor of God's people, and he represents the gods of Egypt in a way. 01:24.186 --> 01:33.015 [SPEAKER_01]: He is the one that Moses and previously. 01:52.085 --> 01:57.311 [SPEAKER_01]: And up until this point in the book of Exodus, it seems like Pharaoh has had everything his own way. 01:57.812 --> 01:58.473 [SPEAKER_01]: It really has. 01:58.573 --> 02:03.919 [SPEAKER_01]: It's not just one Pharaoh, but the Pharaohs have had it their own way. 02:04.740 --> 02:10.427 [SPEAKER_01]: An entire nation, a potential worshipers 02:10.407 --> 02:11.248 [SPEAKER_01]: under Pharaoh. 02:12.170 --> 02:21.266 [SPEAKER_01]: The infant sons of God's people have been thrown into the Nile to be eaten by Egypt's crocodile gods. makes the slaves work harder, and what happens is that the slaves come to Moses, the Israelites come to Moses and says, just leave us alone, leave us in our slavery. 02:44.712 --> 02:46.956 [SPEAKER_01]: That's what we saw only a few verses before. 02:47.757 --> 02:49.560 [SPEAKER_01]: Leave us in our slavery. 02:50.519 --> 03:00.834 [SPEAKER_01]: And so far, in Exodus, it seems like the world and the devil seem to have all the power, all the control and all the gods on their side. 03:01.535 --> 03:03.318 [SPEAKER_01]: That's where we're at in Exodus. 03:04.379 --> 03:19.581 [SPEAKER_01]: But in our passage today, in Exodus 7, God is about to swallow up His enemies in victory. 03:21.113 --> 03:22.496 [SPEAKER_01]: Let's look at the passage together. 03:22.516 --> 03:33.402 [SPEAKER_01]: Exodus 7, I'm gonna begin rating in verse one for context, and we're gonna focus on verses eight through verse 13, beginning in verse one. 03:35.137 --> 03:41.066 [SPEAKER_01]: And the Lord said to Moses, see I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron shall be your prophet. 03:41.687 --> 03:51.402 [SPEAKER_01]: You shall speak all that I command you, and your brother Aaron shall tell Pharaoh to let the people of Israel go out of his land, but I will harden Pharaoh's heart. 03:52.043 --> 03:57.972 [SPEAKER_01]: And though I multiply my signs and 06:35.887 [SPEAKER_01]: For those of you who really appreciate those, I don't know that all of you do, but for those who do, the title of the sermon this morning is swallowed up in victory. 06:36.527 --> 06:37.488 [SPEAKER_01]: Look at this concept. 06:37.789 --> 06:47.920 [SPEAKER_01]: It's a concept that goes throughout that, that we find throughout scripture, this concept of being swallowed up in victory or God, swallowing up his enemies. 06:48.372 --> 06:51.841 [SPEAKER_01]: And we're going to focus on this passage that of the snakes. 06:51.901 --> 06:53.585 [SPEAKER_01]: It's like kind of a strange story. 06:53.605 --> 06:56.894 [SPEAKER_01]: And why is God using a snake as one of his signs? 06:56.934 --> 06:57.796 [SPEAKER_01]: It's very strange. 06:58.016 --> 07:00.643 [SPEAKER_01]: We'll see you again with the Exodus. 07:01.754 --> 07:05.321 [SPEAKER_01]: That is the title of this morning swallowed up in victory. 07:05.341 --> 07:11.032 [SPEAKER_01]: And the first thing I want to address is the question, what is the source of supernatural power? 07:11.833 --> 07:14.338 [SPEAKER_01]: Is that something that's being dealt with here in our story? 07:15.119 --> 07:21.231 [SPEAKER_01]: God shows a sign through Moses and Aaron of a staff being turned into a snake. 07:22.628 --> 07:26.573 [SPEAKER_01]: but then the magicians do the same thing, mortal. 07:27.454 --> 07:31.540 [SPEAKER_01]: So I want to ask the question, what is the source of supernatural power? 07:32.861 --> 07:39.931 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, throughout history, we know that people have been fascinated by and fearful of supernatural power. 07:39.951 --> 07:42.835 [SPEAKER_01]: Supernatural simply means beyond nature. 07:43.455 --> 07:51.606 [SPEAKER_01]: Today, we say something as supernatural if it cannot be explained by either science or the laws of nature. 07:52.531 --> 08:00.683 [SPEAKER_01]: The Bible often describes supernatural power being displayed as signs or wonders, those are some words, the scriptures use. 08:01.865 --> 08:08.775 [SPEAKER_01]: The Bible also makes clear that human beings, all of us, are not born with supernatural powers. 08:09.135 --> 08:12.079 [SPEAKER_01]: That's something that you thought was possible, it simply is not. 08:12.821 --> 08:17.948 [SPEAKER_01]: Human beings are born with natural powers, according to our nature. 08:17.928 --> 08:22.414 [SPEAKER_01]: We are born according to human nature with natural powers. 08:22.794 --> 08:24.677 [SPEAKER_01]: For instance, the power of communication. 08:25.377 --> 08:31.766 [SPEAKER_01]: Abstract thought, self-awareness, and as Solomon tells us, an awareness of eternity. 08:32.166 --> 08:36.351 [SPEAKER_01]: God has placed an awareness of eternity into human's hearts. 08:39.135 --> 08:47.125 [SPEAKER_01]: We're also given the power to produce offspring, which I wanted to say that that's supernatural because creating an eternal soul, 08:47.628 --> 08:49.010 [SPEAKER_01]: your birth, but I don't want to get into that. 08:49.050 --> 08:51.132 [SPEAKER_01]: Let's just say it's childbirth. 08:51.773 --> 08:54.416 [SPEAKER_01]: That is a natural power to have offspring. 08:54.436 --> 08:57.961 [SPEAKER_01]: We won't get into the creating of an eternal soul when that happens. 08:58.001 --> 08:59.402 [SPEAKER_01]: That's a big theological debate. 09:00.604 --> Genesis, we're told that God's given us power to subdue the earth, to work and to keep it. 09:12.098 --> 09:13.720 [SPEAKER_01]: He commands that if humanity. 09:15.218 --> 09:24.631 [SPEAKER_01]: We have the power to make choices to anticipate the outcomes of those choices and the power to persuade others to follow us into our choices. 09:26.373 --> 09:27.155 [SPEAKER_01]: Our persuasion. something we can deceive ourselves into believing it's best for us, 09:42.505 --> 09:47.335 [SPEAKER_01]: And we have the ability to deceive others, but we also have the power to uncover the truth. 09:48.517 --> 09:53.247 [SPEAKER_01]: These are the kinds of natural powers which human beings are typically born with. 09:53.808 --> 09:57.696 [SPEAKER_01]: They are natural are according to our nature as human beings. 09:58.587 --> 10:04.798 [SPEAKER_01]: But human beings are not born with the ability to turn a wooden staff into a snake. 10:05.580 --> 10:12.773 [SPEAKER_01]: That's just not something we're born with, no human being, has that ability in and of themselves, in and of themselves. 10:14.937 --> 10:18.503 [SPEAKER_01]: So what is going on in the throne room of Egypt? 10:19.141 --> 10:25.670 [SPEAKER_01]: How do the magicians of Egypt, which magicians is just a term for all of those who are practicing these secret arts? 10:26.351 --> 10:33.300 [SPEAKER_01]: There are different types of offices they had, but the magicians is just describing all of them. 10:33.981 --> 10:42.212 [SPEAKER_01]: How do they, the magicians of Egypt, do the same thing that Moses and Aaron do when the rod of Aaron turns into a serpent? 10:42.853 --> 10:45.136 [SPEAKER_01]: Where does their power come from? 10:45.216 --> 10:46.498 [SPEAKER_01]: The magicians power? 10:47.812 --> 10:54.279 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, the Scripture is first our clear that all power comes from Yahweh, the Creator God. 10:55.000 --> 11:02.568 [SPEAKER_01]: In the beginning there was no power other than God, and then God shows to create lesser powers in heaven and on earth. 11:03.749 --> 11:08.374 [SPEAKER_01]: We've already looked at the kind of power that human beings have, a natural kind of power here on earth. 11:09.355 --> 11:14.701 [SPEAKER_01]: But God also created spiritual beings in the heavens with power. 11:15.482 --> 11:15.962 [SPEAKER_01]: He did. 11:18.085 --> 11:21.451 [SPEAKER_01]: They have power similar to humans into some degree. 11:21.972 --> 11:30.727 [SPEAKER_01]: They have the power to speak, communicate, think, decide, reason, power to choose, power to worship, and power to rebel like humans. 11:31.769 --> 11:34.855 [SPEAKER_01]: They've got also gave them supernatural power. 11:34.875 --> 11:36.398 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, we would call supernatural power. 11:36.438 --> 11:39.503 [SPEAKER_01]: They have power to appear and disappear. 11:39.972 --> 11:44.388 [SPEAKER_01]: and the power to intervene in the natural order of the world we live in. 11:44.890 --> 11:51.012 [SPEAKER_01]: Breaking the laws of nature, they too some degree have that ability to break the laws of nature. 11:53.371 --> 11:59.897 [SPEAKER_01]: These spiritual beings were created to worship God and to serve Him day and night for eternity. 11:59.937 --> 12:01.518 [SPEAKER_01]: They don't grow old. 12:02.099 --> 12:04.801 [SPEAKER_01]: I doubt personally they very quickly grow tired. 12:04.941 --> 12:23.057 [SPEAKER_01]: It's possible they grow fatigued eventually, but it would be on a supernatural level because they were designed to serve God day and night for eternity as his mighty ministers, servants of God, for the good of humanity, 12:24.893 --> 12:34.531 [SPEAKER_01]: The scriptures also hint at a great rebellion in heaven, whereas many as a third of these spiritual beings rebelled against their creator. 12:35.333 --> 12:45.231 [SPEAKER_01]: And they chose to follow a beautiful and powerful spiritual being, which God had made for his own glory and for his own service. 12:46.679 --> 12:49.483 [SPEAKER_01]: They chose to follow a created being. 12:49.823 --> 13:00.477 [SPEAKER_01]: One of the most beautiful and powerful beings God created, he's called the day star, the son of the dawn, or in some translations, Lucifer. 13:01.338 --> 13:03.441 [SPEAKER_01]: And we now call him after this rebellion. 13:03.481 --> 13:05.323 [SPEAKER_01]: We now call him Satan. 13:05.804 --> 13:09.008 [SPEAKER_01]: Which means the great adversary, the great adversary. 13:10.709 --> 13:18.177 [SPEAKER_01]: The power, these spiritual beings were given for beauty, worship, and service to God was from that moment of their rebellion. 13:19.318 --> 13:28.528 [SPEAKER_01]: It became a twisted and corrupted power, which was now eternally bent on you serving the true worship of God. 13:28.808 --> 13:31.551 [SPEAKER_01]: That's what they were created for, the true worship of God. 13:32.111 --> 13:40.260 [SPEAKER_01]: That's what we are created for, and those fallen spiritual beings have now taken all 13:40.595 --> 13:44.404 [SPEAKER_01]: and have bent it against the true worship of God. 13:44.845 --> 13:47.752 [SPEAKER_01]: That is the purpose of fall, this fall from being exalted in the throne room of God, worshiping him, saying, holy, holy is the Lord, God, the Almighty, after being cast down from that place of exaltation for their treachery, God did permit Lucifer to enter the Garden of Eden, and to tempt Adam and Eve in the garden with the same kind of line that he told all the 14:26.950 --> 14:29.072 [SPEAKER_01]: Lucifer [SPEAKER_01]: And he comes into the garden and he's permitted to test Adam and Eve with the same kind of law. 14:43.649 --> 14:46.952 [SPEAKER_01]: Telling them that they could also be like God's. 14:48.594 --> 14:51.237 [SPEAKER_01]: And sadly humanity willingly. 14:52.128 --> 14:57.536 [SPEAKER_01]: chose to join the fallen spiritual beings in the rebellion and corruption. 14:57.896 --> 14:59.659 [SPEAKER_01]: That's the fall of humanity. 15:00.460 --> 15:08.572 [SPEAKER_01]: And the rest of the Old Testament describes not the exaltation of human beings as gods, like Lucifer promised them. 15:09.353 --> 15:19.047 [SPEAKER_01]: But instead, the Old Testament tells us that humanity from that point on it enters into enslavement. 15:19.516 --> 15:24.503 [SPEAKER_01]: The enslavement of humanity to the fear and worship of this fallen spiritual beings. 15:27.468 --> 15:34.158 [SPEAKER_01]: The fear and worship of the fallen angels, the false gods, or the demons. 15:35.880 --> 15:49.320 [SPEAKER_01]: In Deuteronomy 32 Moses reveals to us that when human being sacrificed to idols, they are actually worshiping demons. 15:50.077 --> 16:12.962 [SPEAKER_01]: shake all the garbage that's in our mind from the world around us that when somebody's bowing down to this little Buddha it's actually kind of nice you know if they have community they have their little they they're all knit together around a common purpose it can actually be a good thing for the world or someone to bow down to a Buddha statue or just let them have their shrine 16:13.212 --> 16:22.843 [SPEAKER_01]: But then have it, you know, as long as it's bringing people together and encouraging them to do good works, maybe they even feed the poor from there, maybe they, it just really brings the community together. 16:22.883 --> 16:30.172 [SPEAKER_01]: I've seen this in movies, where you're watching a movie, it's not related to the worship of false gods. 16:31.213 --> 16:35.919 [SPEAKER_01]: But then in the movie, there'll be this moment where there's their worshiping and it's considered like a good thing. 16:36.419 --> 16:39.523 [SPEAKER_01]: Think about the animated Disney movie, Mulan. 16:40.752 --> 16:46.020 [SPEAKER_01]: It's seen as kind of like this good thing for the family and they're looking out for the well-being of humanity. 16:47.843 --> 17:06.270 [SPEAKER_01]: But the Old Testament is crystal clear that when a human being bows down to an idol, they are worshiping demons, the fallen spiritual beings that will inhabit eternity in hell. 17:08.107 --> 17:11.552 [SPEAKER_01]: So we need to align our thinking as Christians to that. 17:12.553 --> 17:14.396 [SPEAKER_01]: It will give us a zeal for those people. 17:15.417 --> 17:22.827 [SPEAKER_01]: When we realize that those people are actually enslaved to demons, they're not living happy go lucky lies. 17:22.867 --> 17:33.962 [SPEAKER_01]: And if they think that's what they're living, it's part of the devil's scheme to blind them, to make them think that their lives are good and happy, that they have a good family life, a good community. 17:34.921 --> 17:47.255 [SPEAKER_01]: But in fact, we must align our thinking to the reality that to worship and idol is to worship demons, those destined for hell. 17:48.196 --> 17:53.482 [SPEAKER_01]: Engelations for eight Paul describes the condition of enslaved humanity this way. 17:54.222 --> 18:03.713 [SPEAKER_01]: Saying formerly, speaking to the church, formerly, when you did not know God, you were enslaved. 18:03.963 --> 18:07.947 [SPEAKER_01]: to those that by nature are not gods. 18:09.448 --> 18:11.410 [SPEAKER_01]: That's what the demons are claiming to be. 18:11.991 --> 18:15.434 [SPEAKER_01]: They're claiming to be deity, to be gods. 18:16.956 --> 18:29.008 [SPEAKER_01]: But in fact, Paul tells us that prior to the knowledge of Jesus Christ, there's the one in true Lord, when you were born again, you were enslaved to the fallen spiritual beings. 18:31.233 --> 18:42.390 [SPEAKER_01]: Satan and his demons are using what remains of their twisted and corrupted power to deceive human beings and believe into believing that they, the fallen angels, are gods. 18:43.311 --> 18:50.962 [SPEAKER_01]: And they are the gods that can ultimately give and take away life, blessing, spiritual knowledge, and lasting joys. 18:52.365 --> 18:58.033 [SPEAKER_01]: But by believing that lie, humans become the puppets of devils. 18:59.532 --> 19:14.368 [SPEAKER_01]: Pressing entire civilization as powerful rulers like we see with Pharaoh, or blinding the eyes of nations as sorcerers, shamans, or witch doctors, that's where their power comes from. 19:15.370 --> 19:20.836 [SPEAKER_01]: The fallen angels that would blind you and drag you to hell with them. 19:20.956 --> 19:27.463 [SPEAKER_01]: That is their goal, the purpose of their existence, the blind you and drag you to hell with them. 19:28.675 --> 19:38.589 20:57.053 [SPEAKER_01]: Or other men and women who have believed the lie that there is another way to God, other than not is revealed in the Scriptures, the truth that has once for all been revealed to the saints. 20:57.994 --> 21:14.468 [SPEAKER_01]: We are told in Scripture that even if an angel from heaven in bright, beautiful clothing comes to you and says, I have a new or better or improved gave another gospel or an improvement on the one we have already been given. 21:31.635 --> 21:36.922 [SPEAKER_01]: By the Lord Jesus Christ and His sent out once, that's what Possible means. 21:37.623
