05:32.759 --> 05:37.028 [SPEAKER_01]: And I envision these two commands as like guardrails of Christianity, 05:37.008 --> 06:04.433 [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm following Jesus on this road and I don't want to run off the road on either side and so on one side you've got this guardrail of grace and that guardrail of grace says your sins are forgiven and it's there to keep me from falling off into despair and crippling doubt and on the other side is this guardrail of obedience and the commands of God and it says do not sin and that guardrail is there to keep me from falling off into like a long season of unrepentance and rebellion and maybe that's not entirely wrong. 06:04.413 --> 06:09.679 [SPEAKER_01]: But where that leaves many of us is it leaves us with a unhappy Christian life that's just sin, but I'm already forgiven, so I'll tolerate little sin just because. 06:23.173 --> 06:30.201 [SPEAKER_01]: So our life with Jesus stays in this middle ground of not being as obedient as we should a strand throughout the letter of John, this strand of assurance and we see it in this verse, your sins are forgiven. 07:38.577 --> 07:41.100 [SPEAKER_01]: And then there's a strand of obedience in
