throughout the chapter so that we can get the because so that we can hear about the mechanic so that we can hear about why it is that he can make such a big statement when we know how fallen and more and more of why it is that we can make this big bold verse one statement of there is therefore now no condemnation and Darren's going to pick up on the rest of the verses in this kind of cluster through Christ Jesus, the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. 06:40.481 --> 06:45.152 [SPEAKER_00]: For what the law was powerless to do because it was 07:37.764 --> 07:51.703 [SPEAKER_00]: But here in this verse, it is saying that there is no condemnation, that we deserve the punishment, that we have done what is deserved to be punished, and yet could make such a bold statement as to say that there is no condemnation. 08:44.142 --> 08:45.284 [SPEAKER_00]: And how is that? 08:45.945 --> 08:53.436 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, the verse goes on to say, doesn't sound like a great law, right? 09:07.427 --> 09:09.973 [SPEAKER_00]: Who's signing up for the law of sin and death? 09:09.953 --> 09:15.559 [SPEAKER_00]: However, the law that Paul is talking about here is actually the Torah. 09:16.079 --> 09:18.622 [SPEAKER_00]: It's the first five books of the Bible. 09:19.002 --> 09:32.675 [SPEAKER_00]: It is the law that the Israelites, God's chosen people, had been given so that they could show all the nations of what it is to truly follow and worship God. 09:33.096 --> 09:37.480 [SPEAKER_00]: And how your life can be when you follow the one true God. 09:37.460 --> 09:45.449 [SPEAKER_00]: But as we may know about the Israelites, God's chosen people, things didn't turn out so well for them. 09:46.009 --> 09:53.838 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they were in slavery in Egypt, God through Moses, redeemed them, set them free. 09:53.878 --> 09:58.463 [SPEAKER_00]: They walked through the Red Sea, they were redeemed, they were saved from slavery. that, there are actually 613 different laws that we can read about in numbers and laviticus to help the people know, truly how to live, how God really wants them to live, and the best way that they can live. 10:26.718 --> 10:38.062 [SPEAKER_00]: So they've been redeemed, they've been set free from slavery, they receive this law and the whole understanding of how to live, and yet time and time nations are more interesting. 10:52.406 --> 10:59.877 [SPEAKER_00]: God leads them to the promise land and even when they get to the promise land, they don't trust God is actually going to give it to [SPEAKER_00]: And that is what Paul is referring to when he talks about the law of sin and death. 11:30.877 --> 11:52.960 [SPEAKER_00]: not that the law is bad, but because of even the Israelites, God's chosen people who have seen and witnessed and know of his power and his might and his glory to redeem people, even though they strive to fulfill the law, it still leads to rebellion and the Spirit because the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God cannot exist where there is sin and death and destruction. 12:13.486 --> 12:24.848 [SPEAKER_00]: But when we are redeemed and made whole through Jesus Christ, the Spirit is able to live with in us so that we can live by the law of the Spirit. 12:24.888 --> 12:28.596 [SPEAKER_00]: That is the law that God always had in mine for us. 12:28.756 just, it was good, it was holy. 13:17.944 --> 13:21.469 [SPEAKER_00]: But why would Paul call it the law of sin and death? 13:22.010 --> 13:24.533 [SPEAKER_00]: Because it was weakened by the flesh. 13:25.576 --> 13:29.901 [SPEAKER_00]: because it was people like you and me trying to fulfill it. 13:31.282 --> 13:35.346 [SPEAKER_00]: And as descendants of Adam, we are weakened by our flesh. to be that sin offering. 16:23.405 --> 16:32.968 [SPEAKER_00]: And Philippians chapter two, one of my favorite verses in the whole Bible, helps us understand exactly what it was that Jesus was willing made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant being made in human likeness and being found in appearance as a man he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross.
