How to Load the Firmware Update

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Before proceeding with this firmware update, please verify that your computer has the telnet client enabled. This is enabled by default in Windows XP and Mac OS X. For Windows Vista/7/8/8.1, please see the steps below. If you are using a different operating system, please refer to that operating system's built-in help or documentation for information on using or enabling the telnet client.
  1. Connect a computer directly into one of the Zoom ADSL Modem/Router’s ETHERNET ports (labeled 1, 2, 3, or 4) using an Ethernet cable.
    Do not attempt to carry out the firmware upgrade through another router or network device or over a wireless connection!
  2. It is important to not interrupt the ADSL Modem/Router while its firmware is being updated. For this reason, we recommend that you take the following precautionary steps:
  3. Now go to the computer that is connected to the ADSL Modem/Router via Ethernet. Make sure the computer is powered on. Also make sure the ADSL Modem/Router is powered on.
  4. Access the ADSL Modem/Router's Configuration Manager:
    1. Open a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, or Safari.
    2. In the address bar field, replace anything there with http://192.168.1.1 (the ADSL Modem/Router’s default LAN IP address), and then press Enter or Return.
    3. When the Login page appears, type the following username and password in lowercase, and then click Login.
  5. The home page appears. Please take note of the settings under Primary Setup and any changes you may have made to Wireless Setup or on any other configuration page. You will need to re-enter your settings later.
  6. Load the firmware file:
    1. Click the Advanced button on the right side of the page.
    2. In the left column, click Management, and then click Update Firmware.
    3. On the Tools - Update Software page, click Browse.
    4. Locate and select the file named Zoom5792-v3.0.0-8.bin, and then click Open (or Choose).
      Note: The firmware filename may be truncated depending on your computer's operating system version.
    5. Click the Update Software button. If a confirmation pop-up appears, click OK.
    6. The firmware uploading process begins and will take a few minutes. Please wait until you see the Device Info page. If you do not see this page, click your web browser's refresh or reload button.
  7. You must perform a factory reset on the ADSL Modem/Router:
    1. Access your computer's Command Prompt or Terminal:
      • Windows XP users:
        From the Start menu, select Run..., type cmd, and then press Enter.
      • Windows Vista users:
        From the Start menu, select All Programs → Accessories, right-click on Command Prompt,
        and then select Run as administrator.
      • Windows 7 users:
        From the Start menu, in the Search box, type cmd, and then press Enter.
      • Windows 8 and 8.1 users:
        Right-click in the bottom-left corner of the screen (a Start or Desktop icon will appear), and then select Command Prompt.

      • Mac OS X users:
        From the Go menu at the top of the screen, select Utilities, and then double-click on Terminal.
        (Note: If you do not see the Go menu, click the Finder icon in the Dock at the bottom of the screen.)
    2. When the Command Prompt or Terminal window opens, type telnet 192.168.1.1 in lowercase, and then press Enter or Return.
    3. At the Login prompt, type admin in lowercase, and then press Enter or Return.
    4. At the Password prompt, type admin in lowercase, and then Press Enter or Return.
    5. Now type restoredefault (in lowercase) at the ">" prompt, like in the screenshot below, and then press Enter or Return.
    6. You will see messages similar to the screenshot below. Now you may close the Command Prompt or Terminal window.

  8. Verify a successful firmware upgrade:
    1. Go back to your web browser. On the Device Info page, check that Software Version shows Zoom V3.0.0-8.
      Note: If you do not see this page, or if you closed the web browser, log back into the Configuration Manager (refer to Step 4) and then click the Advanced button on the right of the page.
  9. Now you can reconfigure the ADSL Modem/Router with your settings, and reconnect the DSL line and any other cables or devices.
