What is strange about this baby crane's first flight?

The chicks that will fly with the ultralights take their first flight in a small private airplane! The chick is inside the box.

The chicks are too little to fly when they are sent from their hatching place in Maryland to Wisconsin for Flight School. That's an important part of the plan. They must get to Wisconsin BEFORE they start learning to fly. Then they will be more willing to follow the ultralight.

They are trained to follow the ultralight from a few days of age. They won't be able to fly until 60-70 days of age. By then, they have been following their ultralight leader for many weeks!
