Crane Capture
520 & 309 Return to Wisconsin!

"When we saw that cranes 309 and 520 were headed toward Michigan (not Wisconsin), we acted quickly," says Sara. By the time the handlers got transport permission, satellite readings showed that the birds had moved to another state. This happened at least 3 times! When the birds moved back to New York on April 29, a capture date was set: Friday, May 5.

"I stayed up late packing Thursday night, but mostly I was anxious to check my e-mail for a satellite reading that would tell us where the birds were. If they had moved, we’d have to cancel the mission. If they were still there, I was headed to NY in the morning."
