So I'm getting started on the rebuild process. The boat is in fairly good shape being it's 40 yrs. The tank was replaced already, I just need to check it out and make sure it's still good. I was told the transom was in great shape when I bought it off course and after I drilled some test holes I found wet black wood.
Stringers are wet but the good news is the floor is solid. Let me know what you guys think. Tags: None. So I started cutting out the transom with a chainsaw. I figured what's the worst that can happen. I got almost half the wood out in under 2 hours and the outer laminate of the plywood pealed right off the fiberglass leaving now wood behind. I think it's going pretty good but I'm sure I'll screw something up.

I got the fish boxes out and ready to get at the transom. My coosa board is in and I am impressed with it. The corner was damaged during the shipping and I had about an eighth inch thick piece I broke off and couldn't break it in half. So it's some strong s--t. And if someone can tell me how to posts pics. But here it is anyway. Can anyone tell me how much wet foam between stringers is too much. I was working on the boat last night and got the inner transom skin off and while digging out the foam I found only the bottom half inch of foam was wet.
Is it worth tearing all the foam out for that little water. I finally got time to finish up the transom and cut my coosa board. It fit pretty good with about a quarter inch gap on both sides and bottom so I can rap my coosa with some glass just to beafen it up some more.
And I still can't figure out how to post pics with the Photobucket app so this will have to do for now. Photobucket sucks, use imgur. Desktop only, for some reason the mobile app doesn't have the direct linking functions. I would remove all foam that has even a spec of water.
And then remove the rest anyway since it will probably all have water in the edges! I'm gonna figure out a way to upload pictures from my phone if it kills me today. Does anybody know of an app that you can post pics from you phone. I need to mess with it alittle bit but it works.
Here is my coosa board cut to fit Build Your Own Express Boat 80s the new transom. Holy shit. I actually got some time to work in the making today got something accomplished with no interruptions. Fit the coosa board to the outer skin, laid 6 layers of glass in the coosa before I installed it. Thinking I might do a similar approach put the core in 1st then create the outer skin in the "new" enclosed area instead of building the outer skin up 1st.
Unless I'm missing something but it seems like less work that way. Looking good so far. I think what I'm gonna do next to fill in the new enclosed transom is make a mold so the new cap and outer skin be one piece and epoxy it. Kinda like a big J and add a layer of over the new skin to make it one piece. All rights reserved. Yes No. OK Cancel.
