Wonderful Family Day. The trip last about 45 min. It was a smooth ride, Bathrooms on board and plenty of seating. I ordered my tickets ahead online. The beach there is a sort walk across the board walk.
They have rental floats, chairs, umbrellas, and food for sale. We took as semi guided tour through the fort. We ditched half way though to explore on our own so we would have ns beach time. We played in the water on the gulf side for a few hours then a storm came trough. There is plenty of shelter. After the storm we decided to play in the bay waters where the boat pier is.
The water is less rough on this side it you have little kids. The beach on this side excursins not as nice but we loved walking down the fort side and found lots of shells. On the way out and trip back we saw dolphins! The boat was fully shaded and crew was very nice. Ship Island itself is beautiful, water is clear all around it and you will see all kinds of wildlife. The water was much better for swimming than the mainland. Whole experience was amazing, one of the best beaches I have been to. Wanted to go back the next day!
We walked on the beach, then took the fort tour, which was interesting. We had a blast. The best news was that the concession stand had reasonably priced food and drinks, and you can rent umbrellas and chairs so you don't need to drag it with you. It was simple and user friendly.
We arrived early for the am departure. Thankfully we did, they had to use two boats for the departure. We were able to get onto that first boat, which ensured us an umbrella and chair rental.
